Stewart Mackintosh studied music in Birmingham and London, and appeared in the original London productions of EVITA at the Prince Edward Theatre, and POPPY and PETER PAN for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He composed the score and was Musical Director for THE ADVENTURES OF BUTCH STRONG, which formed part of the birthday celebrations marking the RSC’s first year at the Barbican Theatre.

He was Musical Director for GYPSY at the Wales Millennium Centre; other work as Musical Director and Conductor includes CRAZY FOR YOU at the Prince Edward Theatre, the London premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s ANYONE CAN WHISTLE at the Savoy Theatre as part of the Covent Garden Festival, PETER PAN at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh, CINDERELLA, ALADDIN, PETER PAN and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO, WOMAN OVERBOARD and THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ at the Palace Theatre, Watford, SONGBOOK at the Watermill Theatre, POPPY at the Half Moon Theatre, COWARDY CUSTARD and JACK THE RIPPER at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London, where he was Head of the Music Department.
